Off-White™ was born from Virgil Abloh’s visionary approach to his art. The brand was born as Pyrex Vision in 2012 in Milan, renamed in 2013 by its founder, who passed away due to an angiosarcoma.
Virgil Abloh thanks to his rebel and nonconformist nature has managed, thanks to incessant tests, to reach a big audience, using fashion as a tool to combine luxury, art, music, architecture and streetwear.
Virgil himself was an artist, architect, engineer, creative director, artistic director, industrial designer, fashion designer, musician, DJ and philanthropist; he finally became Creative Director and Founder of Off-White™ and the first afro american to become Artistic Director of Louis Vuitton Man.
The brand’s name (that grey area between white and black just like the off-white color) gives off the message he wanted to share: a strong identity that takes advantage of Italian history and craftsmanship, with a global look to design and trends. This is evident in the Eyewear collection as well.
